Combining Bodypaint, Makeup and prosthetics

Danny Marie

The following photographs are of bodypaints in various settings and contexts that i think will inspire my project, and perhaps give me some idea of different techniques to use in my own work.

I believe that this effect has been achieved with fullers earth.

What i really like about this makeup is the setting she is in. The artist has not made the makeup too detailed or try to replicate the earth exactly yet to look at it, you know what she represents.

I like the fact that the artist has also left the face of the model clear from makeup. It gives a more human quality to the photograph, and i think makes her more beautiful.  In stead of her being the earth it makes it so that she is also drying out, like the ground around her. I also think that this gives the overall photograph more of a fashion/beauty feeling rather than being completely art.

I think that if i were to do a campaign showing droughts and raising awareness for water shortages, i would like to encorporate this techinique in my work.

The first image by this artist is not overly different from other body paints i have seen, in a way i like that the makeup coveres all we see of the model, and the small details creating the landscape.

However the idea of the model blending into a background, but also using their form to create rolling hills in this photograph gives a depth to the image.

This is possible a technique i could use in my work. I would have to collaborate with a modelmaker or set designer to help me create the final image.

In this second photography created by Eva Mueller, the artist has used stragetically placed "bushes".

I'm not too sure what this is made out of, but i think it may be interesting and you could replicate this effect with a knotted hair piece.

For the idea about deforestation i think it would be good to do this and then shave/cut the hair however i probably won't do this as i want to concentrate on prosthetics rather than postiche and hair.

This artwork is a big inspiration to me.

I think it is really well done, and uses the combination of body art, prosthetics and beauty makeup to its advantage.

I believe that if i were to do a body art makeup i would definitely do something like this and include prosthetics because i feel that straight painting bodypaint on the body has been done so many times and there needs to be advances in the industry to push the makeups forward to create more spectacular work.

After doing some research i have found that this makeup was made with 8 different silicone flat pieces. around the torso and also onto the back.

As well as the prosthetics the photography and fashion setting with the beauty makeup may be something i would want to do because i think that it gives the makeup more context, and makes the work more aesthetically pleasing.

The only thing i don't particularly like about this makeup and something i would do differently if i were to go down this route is that although the final outcome is really beautiful i feel that it does not have much direction, and purpose.

For me to create something similar i would have to create more of a "Character" makeup rather than just a beauty makeup.

Although this is not a boy painting, i think that this is really beautiful and just shows how something simple can look really good.

You could use Pros-aide to stick on gems/pearls etc.

and you could use them to represent water droplets or something similar.

If i were to do this i would not just use this technique but maybe i could incorporate it and include it in a makeup.

I absolutely adore these images. They definitely are an inspiration for my work.

i especially love all the little trees and all the texture on his face, i think that it gives it a really natural and organic element.
