I am really pleased with the outcome of this project. I had so much fun making it.

Technical Processes

In terms of technical processes I have learnt a lot more about mould making and workshop skills with this project. I think for me it was an important step to take in terms of developing my mould making skills, and meticulousness and professionalism in the workshop. I feel that it was beneficial for me to concentrate on making really nice simple fibreglass moulds, and working out the thickness and practice the different techniques rather than making really complicated moulds and having them not work. I know it was a necessary step for me because I don’t want to push myself too hard and then get disheartened and put off of prosthetics.

Aesthetics and Designs

In my opinion I believe I have achieved what I set out to do with my idea, my final film was almost exactly how I imagined it in my head, which I think is quite rare with makeup and filming. A way I could have improved my aesthetics was to have a few more tests of the body painting in different colours and styles. But I think its one of those things that will always be the case in hindsight, because I am really pleased with the final look. I think the most difficult thing was thinking about complementary colours that would work on the body but also have to represent nature. This was a great test for me and forced me to think about the colour wheel, and more about beauty and representations.

Research, Development and Project Planning

I think that making a campaign was so useful for this project because it helped me focus my research onto specific areas, and develop my ideas. It also helped a lot with thinking about context for my work and who the audience would be. The whole time I was designing I was thinking about how the audience would view the make, how it would have to be beautiful but also instantly recognisable as the earth. I think that by creating my idea, and planning the filming of the project first before designing the makeup was beneficial in creating a makeup with appropriate context.

Another thing I feel I succeeded in very well in this project is my time management and organisation skills. I found finding a model and a crew early relieved a lot of stress and then starting early with the practical work, rather than rushing it allowed me to do some useful test pieces and even have a test shoot for the film which really helped when it came to filming on the day because we only really had one shot at the takes.

I definitely think it has prepared me to start thinking about what I want to create in level 6 and over summer start thinking about project ideas that would be appropriate and contact models/ crews that would I can collaborate with next year.

Professional Development

I am so glad I decided to make my own film for this project, rather then just do a photography shoot or a

If I could now go back and redo this project with everything I have learnt, I would make a fibreglass core of my models chest and a more complicated squish mould rather than a plaster core of the chest and float them off into flat moulds, and just push myself with technical processes. I can understand now how this would make my makeup more seamless and polished. Which I don’t think is a bad way to feel because I feel really prepared and ready to go into level 6 and start making some more complicated makeups, and I also have much more confidence in my abilities now.

I also want to start making more complicated sculpts, This project has allowed me to try out some different materials and techniques that I think have developed my sculpting skills, because I was recreating something from a reference it allowed me to concentrate on the techniques and because there was a lot of sculpting and prosthetics I do believe it really got some good practice from this project. I think now I can push myself to come up with some more complicated original designs. I am excited to practice my sculpting skills over summer in preparation for third year.

Evaluation

Below is the latest edit of the film, with the music that Jonathon Deering wrote for it. When i watched it i almost cried. I am so happy with it, but i am going to meet with my editor Dan next week to check out the rest of the footage, because i think there were a few shots i liked that arn't in the film that i hope can be, and also to discuss adding credits and tweaking the colour just a little more.
