Dixie Crouch: Professional Make-up Project
Continuing on from my initial ideas of creating the planet earth on someone's body i have more of an idea to create prosthetics as the land masses and body paint my model with blue to represent the sea. I want to expand on my prosthetic skills, and as i mentioned in my presentation i always want to include prosthetics in my makeups.
Game Of Thrones Introduction
Placement of Prosthetics ideas
Placement Idea 1
For this idea i would have to creat a bald cap to make the arctic fit around the head.
But i like the idea of the prosthetics covering the chest and breast area.
Thinking about the silicone, i think it would have to be deadened quite a bit to wrap around the model.
Looking at this laid out now i think that Africa wrapped around her leg and behind is too big and would not stick very securely there.
Also with this design i am struggling to place Australia and ideally i do dont want to miss out any continents.
Placement Idea 3
For this design i carried on playing around with the idea of the prosthetics on the cheeks, but i think them on both cheeks may be too much.
Personally i think that the back of this design is too busy and is not going to work.
I also do not like the europe and asia prosthetic wrapped aroud the waist.
However i think that the placement of the Americas on the legs works well here. i just have to be caustious about the knee bending.
The Game of Thrones title sequence is also something i was inspired by. especially by a lot of the forest scenes and the small trees. But what i think is most interesting about this sequence is the way it is "filmed" i really like the panning across the countries and how the world is shown in 3D. I think for my prosthetics i definitely have to sculpt in the contours of the land.
Design of the prosthetics
Tutorial With Pete Tindall
I am really happy that he gave me the go ahead with this project i am really excited to start sculpting pieces and i think it will be an interesting project.
Development of ideas
Prosthetics ideas.
Placement Idea 2
For this design idea i played around a little with accenting the cheekbone by putting a tiny prosthetic there. i really like this idea, especially if i can find a country that would shape and work with it.
I much prefer the idea of The Arctic being on the body and not on the head. I would prefer not to do a bakd cap and insteda style her hair, because i think she would look more beautiful with hair.
I need to make sure that enough of her is covered so that she does not feel naked
"Fashion Oil"
Film outline/idea
The idea for the film is that my model with be painted to represent the earth and the first 30-40 seconds of filming will show off the makeup and her beauty, and just show the audience how delicate and precious she is. I hope i can get some good pannin shots as well as some full body footage. Then half way through the film the oil will appear. The first shot i want of it is coming out of her mouth, making it appear that the oil is making the earth sick. Then i am going to slowly have the oil pouring and dripping over her body until it eventually covers her entirely. During this half of the filming we should be able to get some good close up shots of the oil and the makeup. Then i would want it to show one last wide shot of my model now covered in black. Like she is ruined and no longer beautiful. The idea behind it being that we only have one earth and once we ruin it there is no saving it again.
My Crew are really keen to shoot this like a beauty/ fashion shoot with high key lighting, on a white background with lots of contrast. Which i totally agree with. There would have to be a white background to make the oil really pop and stand out.
For some inspiration of the oil dripping i have put together a little mood board below.
I particularly like the order of some of these shots, having just a small amount of oil on her face and then down the shoulders and back and then have her fully covered like in the last image.
FEEDBACK
I wanted to bounce these designs around with someone so i got some feedback from my sister about the placements of these prosthetics. She said not to have any prosthetics near the crotch area because if you are having close ups on the prosthetics, you don;t want to draw any attention to areas that the model may not be comfortable with showing. Or any areas where there are a lot of natural curves in the body where the prosthetics would be harder to stick down.
She also prefered the prosthetics a lot more when the land masses made more sense with their placement on the body. For example when North America is places above South America and where the Arctic is placed near the top of the body and Australia nearer the bottom. Also Europe and russia need to be higher above on the body than Africa.
For the prosthetics i do not want them to just be outlines and shapes of the continents and countries but i want them to pop out on my model where the natural contours and mountains of the land actually are in the world.
Much like the photos above.
Raised Relief Maps
What i like about these maps are particularly how the mountains are carved into them. The company did this by scanning in digitally their design and then 3D printing the map.
Also with these maps there are the added details of contour lines and country names which i really like, and could possible incorporate into my design with silcione painting, airbrush stencils and tattoo transfers.
3D maps
Drawing out the land mass
I actually have a black and white map on my wall at home so i used it to trace out all the significant land masses that i could encorporate into my design. This was actually really good practive for the sculpting stage because although in my head i think i know what shapes all the continents are, to have to draw them all out really puts them all into perspective and helps you picture them on the body better.
For the prosthetics i think that i have to break them down into Continents. That i can sculpt together.
