Painting Prosthetics

Designs

At first the idea was just to paint the prosthetics with silcione paints. but after some initial research and experimentation i feel that it would be more interesting, exciting and perhaps realistic to include some alternate textures and techniques into the prosthetics, such as flocking, and sand and moss as well as pigmenting the silicone and pre painting it with paints.

Africa

Pre-colour the silicone a beige colour. To match the majority of the land.

South America

Australasia

The Arctic

North America

Hawaii

Europe / Asia / Russia

For the two test piece above i used mostly yellow and white with a touch of flesh tone, but as you can see the flesh tone overpowered them both. And the pieces are not the right colour at all. I will keep these two for test painting  but as it has shown i will need to test my silicone pigments and i will not be adding any flesh tones to the pieces. However i quite like the opaqueness of these pieces. As they are representing land i do not want any translucency.

Testing Pigments.

Ah Hawaii Didn't really work in silicone

When i put the piece back onto the plaster core i was really happy to see that it pretty much fitted together.

I am a little concerned about the fit around the left nipple. i hope that the silicone will curve around and stick down onto my model well.

I am also worried because that is quite  a sensitive and private area i really dont want  it to pop out there.

in hindsight i should have been more careful with where i separated the whole prosthetic into two parts.

Also i know that this piece is in two different colours, and i did do that on purpose, because the top half of the design of this piece is a lot darker and greener. and i think that the difference in shades will aid the paint job.

regardless it will be interesting to see if this pays off. or whether it would have been better to match the colours and then work out the paint afterward.

But thats okay. to rectify this i am going to make this  prosthetic out of bondo insteam adn just keep these pieces as a back up. I think Bondo would be the best material to use anyway because there is no blending edge and the piece is so small.

I much prefer the colouring of these pieces,  i think i finally have it right, also for these peices it doesnt matter too much because it doesnt need to match a skin tone and also i am going to be painting them fairly opaque with silicone paints over the top.

Also because i mixed three different colours together when making this mixture it really helped me to mix it well, because i could see when all the colours had blended.

The white prosthetic of the arctic was easy to colour, but now looking at it in the mould i am a little concerned because it is so opaque. Because of the small amount of silicone i had to use to make this, it was hard to get a small enough amout of pigment, even the tiniest drop pigmented it heavily. I think i will have to re run this piece again.

Running the Prosthetics

I think this prosthetic will be best to pigment white and then maybe add different greens to the edges with silicone paints.

Because Hawaii is so small i do not think it is worth mixing up and different oloured silicone for it. But just use what is left of the beiges and the other colours, and then paint it with greens afterward.

Then use silicone paints to paint in the land green, and flock to add colour and texture to the more densly green areas.

Although ther is a lot less of the beige colouring in North America
