Dixie Crouch: Professional Make-up Project
Creating Land and sea with aqua colour and fullers earth
Paint and materials Experimentation
Testing Darker Tones
Testing Lighter Tones
Luckily Clare hedges bought an airbrish at UMAE, and she was nice enough to let me practice with it.
The silverjet IWATA airbrush is perfect for a first compressor and airbrush set. However i know that the nib of this brish is more for detailing and therefore quite small.
I saw this photo when we had a day with Jenny Towened. and i decided to try and recreate the makeup with fullers earth and aquacolour. I used georgie kennet as a model and because she has quite dark hair and i really like the way the hairs on her arm look like the sea in the and the way the aquacolour picked that up. I also think that the fullers earth is somewhat sucsessful howeer a little messy so i do not want to use it for my final project. I think it would be a lot more technical and neat with prosthetics.
Test Colour with Aqua Colour
Below are the tests i used with the glitter above. and even that little bit of sparkle and texture really makes a difference. I waill definitely use this in the assessment.
I think because the airbrush nib was quite small ii had to apply the paint quite close to the arm and it gave this cool mottled glaaxy effect.
The only thing with this is that the paint job took a long time. From previous experience i know that the airbrushed at university have bigger nibs than glares airbrish, so i am hoping the colour will be distributed over the body more easily.
I really like these darker tones, for this i mixed the dark and light blues with the black silicone paint and it gave this great effect. i will definitely use this in my assessment.
Testing Silicone Airbrush Paints
I think that the colours of this kid of work, especially with the green in the prosthetics, however i am still dubious to use them because they are aquacolours and i do not think that they will last when we come to pouring the "oil " over my model. They also took a long time to get the right texture and to get not harsh edges int he paint job.
These are the references and the colours i am trying to achieve. I ti s always important to work with reference images to you get the right effect.
Testing the colour with prosthetics
I do not really like the colours of the aqua paint with the prosthetics i think that the blue is too "Primary" and there is not enough variation and different shades in it.
I found these references online of where two different seas meet in the ocean and it creates this colour rift. I think it is beautiful and totally works and justifies my paint job.
Below are some images of my arm fully painted with addded clouds. I think this touch really brings it to life. I am really happy with these tests so that is how i will probably paint her on assessment.
I painted the clouds with aquacolour and sealed with transluscent powder.
Above is a test with the Arctic prosthetic in various colour with the pain job inderneath. i much prefer the test on the right, with the clear unpigmented silicone. It works so well and looks like ice rather than the photo with the white pigment which i think just looks dirty and messy and ugly.
Testing with a bondo piece of Hawaii. I really like the colour matches of this. For the prosthetic i used kryolan aquacolours to paint it.
