I am so much happier with the final attempts at flcoking i think that they look so much more natural and you can actually ge the impression of the plains and the movement of the land through the direction of the flocking.

Also because it is only brsuhed on really lightly you can still see all the detail and colour of the paint job underneath, so instead of covering up all the previous work, now they work together to create depth and contours.

Because i was unhappy with the tests i was hesitant to do the flocking for the real thing. So i spoke to julia about ways to keep the flocking light, and she suggested not even using the flocking gun buy insteat sprinkling on the flock to the adhesive on the piece. It seems like such an obvious solution but it didn't even really occur to me that you could even use the flock without the gun.

I think that the sand works so much better when applied on top of paint, rather than just glued on itself, i dont think that the sand gived it enough colour and cover on its own.

Adding Sand for The Desert

As well as testing just sand, i also tried to add some thicker model maing textures. I think it worked pretty well. However it lacked depth because it was all one colour.

Here there is a mixture of both the sand and the model making flock texture, this seems to be the best mix of coour and texture to represent the desert.

This was the first time i had really used the flocking machine myself and i was a little nervous. To create the colours i wanted i mixed the green and yellow, just to make the land look more natural and add depth because i didn't want it all one colour.

This was actually a lot harder than i thought it was going to be, and the flock got everywhere. One thing i am pleased with in this test however is the ability to graduate the colours and make it look a little like it blends out and its not completely one colour.

I added the sand before the flock, but then a lot of it got covered, on the actual prosthetics the sand need to be the last thing that goes on then if i decid to use it.
