Makeup Assessment and filming
Final Prosthetics to Apply
Sped up Makeup application
(No Nudity)
Unfortunately the GoPro ran out of battery when applying the prosthetics and i was concentrating on the makeup and not the filming so it cuts off the end. Also i have not done a GoPro filming like this before so the quality of the footage is not great, because I was not quite sure how to frame it. But at least it shows the application even if it not a great video, it was good to practice this before third year. Perhaps by then i will work out how to do it better.

Europe and Asia
In addition to these prosthetics there are also 3 silicone pieces that represent the Arctic going on the back of the neck. This one is unpigmented and not pre-painted, so it looks like Ice.
Another silicone prosthetic that represents Australia, this is pigmented, precoloured and has sad to represent the dry desert. I am quite unhappy with that one out of all the other prosthetics. But i have no qualms about it. Also because it is a lot smaller than the ones above it should stick more easily, because it is lighter.
Lastly there is a bondo piece taht represents Hawaii to go on the cheek.
So i am counting it as 8 prosthetic pieces, but they are broken down into multiple pieces, and there are extras such as the UK and Ireland, etc.
Evaluation of Assessment and Application
The first thing to say about application is that I am really glad I organised an assistant.
Connie was brilliant, she had no problems with the hair. I had shown her the design of it a week previously but she did not have a chance to practice it on my model, but she executed it perfectly, and it was just how i wanted it. I don't think i would have been able to get the same style if i had done it myself.
It was also really helpful to have her around to glue the prosthetics while i concentrated on airbrushing my model, which took a lot longer than expected. Just to get it even all over the body.
I also used connie to my advantage in terms of having her paint my model's nails and apply a base layer of Aquacolour to her skin because it was soon obvious that the temptu silicone based colours were not going to stretch far enough to get complete coverage on the skin just on their own. This was really helpful and connie's attitude was great, she did not complain about any of the tasks i had given her, adn she was a great pair of hands in the studio just to grab hair dryers and brushes. I would definitely ask her to help me again. Without her there would have been no way i would have finished in time.
I am really pleased with the prosthetics on there own , i feel like i achieved what i wanted to and that they follow the design idea of the planet from satellite view, this is mainly because of the colouring. But also because of the flocking and extra details which i was questioning doing after Sara said she really liked how the paint job had made them shiny..
Looking After My Model
This project really taught me a lot about taking care of my model before, during and after the shoot. Moreso than any other university project or film, especially because this was my film and i had the extra pressure of directing her. I also felt that everyone else on set was really into their techincal jobs, except for the producer who also was very caring about the model.
Because it was also se messy there was a lot more i had to think about for her. For example:
I bought her a thin dressing gown she could wear while walking around uni, but it couldnt be too thick because i didnt want it to destroy the apint job or mess up the prosthetics.
i also bought her bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and a shower puff so that she could get all the blue paint off afterward.
Filming
Straight after assessment we had to get to the studio to film the makeu with the oil. We had from 1pm until 8pm to do this. so it was a tight shoot and pretty exhausting but a great experience.
The camera that we used to film was an Arri Alexa. Which all the crew was really excited about using because it captures really high quality footage and also can film in slow motion in HD. T
My Model
I honestly could not be more proud and happier with Georgina. It paid off having someone with modelling experience who knew how their body looked and how to pose well and show off their angles. Georgina also studies commercial photography, which benefitted this shoot because she knows about lighting and she can picture how it would look in the camera.
She also did not moan or complain at all throughout the whole makeup application or filming. She put up with everything I sprayed, poured and stuck on her.
Clare hedges snapped this photo of me at the end of the shoot. I think it captures the day well.
how tired i was by this point, how messy the shoot was but how happy i was with the outcome, and how fun the whole experience was.

Cleaning / Reusing Prosthetics
I don't need to reuse my prothetics. but i wanted to clean then to hand it. i wasn't sure of the best way to do this. I think that is something i need to research for next year. For this i just washed them with water and a bit of soap to get off the "oil" and the glue.
Looking at my pieces i think they would definitely be reuseable maybe another 3/4 times. Especially if they were taken care of every time. I think this comes down to a couple of things.
1. There are no blendable edges so they did not get ruined.
2. I think the face that i sealed them with caulk really helped preserve them, i am actually really surprised that they are still flocked and painted exactly like they were before use.
3. Also because i used silicone glue for the tiny trees, i was really shocked that they remained on there so well. and really pleased because it makes me feel that the standard of my work is increasing.
