Technology research

RDFI Chips

RFID stands for Radio Frequency IDentification, a technology that uses tiny computer chips smaller than a grain of sand to track items at a distance

They remind me of finger prints and I kind of think that repeated line pattern could be good to play with.

Tech Symbols

Codeing- QR Codes

The purpose of this page is to investigate more into technology symbols, and images. Ones that could work with the human skin and I could incorporate into my design.

Primary Research

The focus of this makeup is the phone attached to the head. But since there are so many different designs of phone and possible variations for my design I needed to get some first hand research.

Below are some photos of old phones I have gathered. I decided for the purpose of this makeup to look at lots of different models, ranging from older to newer.

The first model is a Nokia 6230, this phone is about 8 years old. The thing I like about this is the classic square screen and keypad shape. It is instantly recognizable as a phone. if I used this design in my makeup, I don't think I would worry about no one receiving the message I want to get across, but also it is already dated, which wouldn’t do my work any favours when I have images in my portfolio as I think the makeup would look dated.

The next step I took, was to break the phones a part. With this older phone it was not too difficult. I think there might be some interesting things I could try with the individual parts of the phones, such as the keypad and the screen.

Over the past few years, QR codes have become increasingly more popular.

The idea of using them in this design came from the new t-shirts that AUB Makeup had made for the course.

The use of these codes, allows the user to scan them with a smart phone and then it takes them to a specific website.

I think the idea of incorporates a lot of the ideas and context of my makeup and sums it up witha a cool pattern.

The next phone I had was an Iphone 4. The thing with the Iphone is that it is the epitome of what we are all addicted to, therefore i was interesed in using it. However the design is so boring. If i were to include this in my design, i don't think that it would even be recognizable as a phone. It also was impossible to open so i couldn't use any of the circuit boards or tech stuff inside of it for research. So i just decided to abandon this phone.

Lastly I had a newer version of a Nokia to use. What I liked about experimenting with this one is that the style of it is really different. And so far i have only had the ideas of using generic Keyboard and screen designs. But the phone below is making me rethink that. I also like the details and designs in the phone, all the dots and repeated patterns are something I think i can get into my design.

I do not have too much to say about the images below, I just wanted to get more simple styalized reference pictures. So I typed Tech patterns into Google Image search and this is what came up. They are similar to what I have above but a bit clearer, and also I like the use of the colour blue throughout them. I have noticed that this colour is a running theme throughout this theme. So I will try to include it in my design. I think i could especially do this with underpainting blue veins within my makeup.

With these codes you can create them youself by typing in a URL to a specific website that builds the codes from this information.

For this project I think that it would be a cool idea and added fun to have the code link to my own website. Below is the final ourcome. Hopefully i can find a way to include it either within the sculpt of photoshopped into the final images.
