During this test I took the opportunity to use the colour swatch palette against my model's skin.
And although it is difficult to see in this photo, because of the light the closest match to his complexion was the second silicone test. Maked on this photo with a red square.
The other main priority and purpose for this test was to test applying prosthetics into the hairline. After the research I have done, I decided to try krystian Malletts advice and use Gafquat in the hair, as it is cheaper than telesis. Although instead of a spatular I used a mascara wand to brush the product through the hair. This worked really well, because although the product is really thick, the wand allowed for the perfect amount to be applied, and the wand meant it brushed through all the hairs, if his hair was much longer i don't think it would have worked. but because it is only short it was good.
After applying the product I used a hairdryer to harden the hair, so it stayed flat. This will also cut down application time of the final applcation.
Earlier in this project my model had stated that he was going to have his hair cut. So I asked him to collect the cuttings. Seen in Fig. 22.7.
As well as just testing the gafquat I wanted to see which shapes would work in the hair, as at this stage in time I have begun sculpting my final prosthetic, (more on the next page) and at the moment I have scuplted it so that there are veins that come from the centre and go into the hair. However i don't know if these will work or be able to be applied into the hair, so below i have tested a similiar shape I had with one of my test sculpts. and the results are pictured below.
This shape does not really lay into the hair really well. And i think the sculpting i have done for the veins in the piece is a bit thinner and more wavy so i really don't think that they will work. The oblond shape just isnt big enough for the hair to be laid sown underneath. Perhaps if the hair was shorter it would work better, but for now i think i need to remove these from my sculpt.
As for the other tests, I think that because of the shape these work a lot better. It was a lot easier to brush the hair into the centre of a prosthetic with a wider base. I also think that the colours on these prosthetics worked well, these were the second test pieces I ran and they almost match my model's skin tone. I just need to add a bit more flocking i think.
hen i used this hair to cover the edges of the prosthetic in the hairline. This works well, because the colour matches exactly rather than having to find synthetic hair that would match. Being the first time I have tried this technique i think that it works well, and the edges are concealed but the application could be neater. I think that this could be achieved with just taking more time and care with application.
Lastly for this test, I wanted to try some sort of vein idea, but as you can see fromt he photos beow it was not very sucessful. The first one i quite like the shape but the colour is wrong and the ones below that in Fig. 22.10 and 22.11, need analysing more. I have done this on the veining practice page.
