Monster Teeth in Industry

Chris Lyons and Fangs FX

The makeup above is not my makeup it belongs to an instagram user called Katemakeupfx.

Although she isnt a professinal and it is not a finished makeup i really was inspired by this makeup. As it means that the teeth can be stuck on a models skin on the outside an not be intrusive to the models mouth.

I thought it was interesting that she made them with a flat piece and not sculpted on a c face cast.

I however do have a facecast and will be sculpting mine on there.

What i like is the way the teeth pop in and out, i think she moulded and ran all the gums in silicone and then made the teeth out of something else and stuck them in. I am not sure what material though.

I decided to try and use Milliput to make the teeth.

It is a expoxy putty material that you mix 2 parts together and it hardens with a white colour.

So i thought it was perfect for making teeth.

When i used it i found it a lot stickier than i first thought it would be. And also takes a lot longer to set than it states on the box.

The teeth work well being made of this and you can also paint it with skin illustrator or acrylics.

With these i just stuck them into my suclpture, then removed them so there was a hole for them to stick into then the pieces where ran.

This worked fine and when it came to application i just popped them in and out with a bit of pros-aide.

In industry you are not allowed to make/apply teeth to an actor with out a special license.

In the UK Chris lyons and Fangs FX are the leading teeth makers for prosthetic makeup.

I think that their work is amazing, and ultimately i wish that my moster could have had teeth like thi, it was just not possible. I think that it gives a much more realistic finish to a makeup rather than having external teeth.

I made the spines the same way as the teeth, but then painted lattex in between them to get the fin shape. It was very simple but worked well.

The only problem i had was at allplication. Especially on the bald cap. in the end i melted some gelatine i dipped in the spined and when it went tack i managed to stick it on the head. Which actially worked so well. they stood up right and were really secure. Much better than using pros-aide or an adhesive.
