Voldermort makeup - Harry Potter and the Deathly halllows part 1. - Nick Dudman

What i really like about this makeup is the combination of practical and digital effects. i think this is the best way to combine both practices in one because in the final outcome the nose is carved out like it would be in person and not awkwardly covered with prosthetics. but then the rest of the practical efects look better than CGI veins would have.

All the of movement and expression of the characters in the game, Beyond: two souls. Is captured through Motion Capture.

performace capture is digital acting

The trickiest part of performance capture is the preporation

getting the actors ready to perform

88 markers on the face htey all have to be places specifically to work with the rig.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Transforming Jamie Foxx into the Villainous Electro-Design FX-WIRED

Digital and Practical Makeup Combined

Beyond: Two Souls  (Quantic Dream, 2013)

the way to make sure that all the facial markers are in the same place every day on set and to keep continuity, the artsits used a vacuum formed cast of the actors and actressed face and drilled small holes into it. Every morning this could then be placed onto the actors face and marked with a pen/makeup. then the digital capture points could be places over the top.

Digital Designing

Personally i believe that the best technical and digital advances that can be beneficial to makeup and prosthetics, film and creature creation is the advances in design programs.

Programs for digital painting and drawing such as

  • Photoshop

digital sculpting:

  • ZBrush

  • Mud Box

  • Sculptris

This Makeup got a lot of backlash from the Makeup Community, a lot of peple didnt like it because after all the work that went into making the prosthetics and then they just covered it up with this illuminating CGI glow.

What i think is interesting about this, and something that it taught me was that you can use prosthetics as markers for the Motion Capture to pick up and then visual FX teams can make a face recognition from that. Rather than using circle markers or captures on the face.
