Releasing Moulds

Because i had quite a bit of trouble with getting the prosthetic out of my mould and with the cap plastic sticing to the mould and the prosthetic delaminating i decided to do a bit more research about mould releases and methods to get a great piece out of a closed mould. although i don't think i have the time to try them they will be useful for future projects.

What i am frustrated about with the fact that my mould did not work. Is that the  first time i tried to mould the bottom piece i used Vaseline and it did not work. However Industry proffessionals swear by it. As you can see by What Neill Gorton posts on the 911 Facebook Page.

So i think that my encapsulator should have worked and the prosthetic should not have delaminated.

I spoke to pete about why this could have

USING ULTRA 4 PARFILM EPOXY AS A MOULD RELEASE

In order to create a vacuum formed mould you need to drill holes into the plaster cast core,

This sculpture will create an overlapping makeup. That is like a broken down puzzle that is put back together in the application.

In the old days this may have been a one piece mask.

The Breakdown of Sculpture was invented by Dick Smith, when he worked on the film Little Big Man. (Arthur Penn, 1970).

So much easier to apply the makeup as seperate pieces, such as lips, eyes, cheeks etc.

It is important to think like a makeup artist when you chop up the schulpture. you have to think about how you can apply in makeup when it is individual pieces.

chop where it is thin, purposefully sculpt where it is thin.

Areas where there are natural wrinkles are a great place to carve into and separate.

Tools- arrowhead tools are great, thin piece opf metal, sharp and

cut into the sculpt at an angle.
