Weft- A bundle of hair that is sewn together at the root end for easier manipulation during the wig making process.

Made with soft wire so it can be manipulated and you can form it to the shape of the head. pull own hair forward, clip weft in place and then cover and encompass with own hair back again.

Making the template:

  • On a malleable block cover the back with cling film.

  • Draw 3 circles on the back of the head the required size of the weft.

  • cellotape over the places where you have marked. (similar to the making a bald cap template)

  • Pin throughout all the markings on the block

  • wrap thick thread around the pins

  • mark where the circumference of the template ends on the thread.

Setting up the weaving frame:

  • Set the weaving sticks shoulder width apart

  • Measure the thread wrapped around the pins on the template then add another 30-40 cm of thread and wire to "play" with.

  • you should use WAXED thread to work with to make the hair stick to it better.

  • Wrap the wire first, because it is springy and difficult ot manipulate, then wrap the thread.

  • make sure all the components are wrapped in the same direction.

  • Important to bring the thread silks together, over towards the left side to meet the pole with the nail in.

  • Make two knots a few cms apart from eachother and secure the silk.

  • then bring the wire across last and hook it onto the nail.

  • The wire MUST NOT come off whilst you are weaving because the weft would be destroyed.

Weaving the hair:

  • Start with one starting knot.

  • It is best if all the hairs are of even length, it may be necessary to cut the root end so the end is even.

  • Pull down the hair so that the majority of hair falls down so that you can get maximum length, but you will need about half an inch of excess to hold on to and work with.

  • After the starting knot, use a metal clip to keep the knot in place.

  •

  • Start weaving the for the circumference first. Around the circumference of the weft, weave a flat weft.

  • Once you reach the mark on the thread that marks the end of the circumference, start knotting for the inside of the weft for this you need to know a Wig weft.
