After all my research i decided to make acrylic eyes, as it was the easiest option for me.

i really enjoyed the process.  And think that they work well.

However i=i know they are not industry standard but the principle of being able to pop them in and out of the prosthetic works, and could work on a film or something.

The only problem is that my model couldn't see out of them very well. i knew this at the time, and for a photoshoot it wasn't a problem. however if she needed to act it would have become a problem.

i'm also really glad i used acrylic because of the natural shine it had, it made they eye balls look really realistic.

I rushed these ones a little so they are a little messy and the paint job is not 100% how i want it to be but close, i just wanted to get the idea.

i found when doing this that painting in the paint made the eyes streaky. it was a lot more effective to sponge it in. it also gave a thicker coverage and a more realistic finish.

Back painting these eyes were not as hard as i first thought it was. I am glad that i had a design, because i would not have been able to do it other.

If i made the veins again i would try to use red cotton or thread to get an even thinner vein and make it more realistic.

But i do think these still work even though they may be a little cartoony.

i have seen this many times, where the enamel eye is painted on a spinning wheel, because it gives a much more realistic iris.

This is especially true when making human eyes.

I however wont be using this method because my eyes dont have round irises.

I think this paint job is incredible though.

Although it may seen cheap, acrylic and resin eyes are used in a lot of films and productions. Above are some characters from the Star wars franchise who have larder eyes.

I think thats these kind of eyes are really effective for aliens and monsters because they really change the face shape.

To create this the prosthetic is sculpted around a form with the same eyes in like below. so that when it is formed in silicone the eyes can just be popped in and out on set.

I think resin eyes are used more with monster busts rather than with makeup and on an actor because of the weight of them.

A quicker way of creating the eyeball is instead of painting it is, you can get a hyper realistic photo and stick it into the resin.

This works well, but takes less skill. so i thnk i will try and paint mine.
